St. Louis Ear in the News

In September 2008, Dr Herzog was interviewed regarding childhood ear infections. He talked about the need for early recognition and treatment of these infections in order to avoid serious and potentially long term complications. This includes the possible need for placement of ear tubes and difficulty with speech delay.

In April 2008, Dr Herzog is interviewed on a St Louis local news channel about hearing loss in older adults. Hearing loss many times is mistaken for Alzheimers or early dementia. Dr Herzog talks about cochlear implants being an option for older adults where hearing aids have failed. His studies have shown implanting older adults are just as successful as implanting young adults. Cochlear implants can assist older adults in leading independent lives by improving hearing and word understanding.

In June 2007, Dr Herzog was interviewed regarding a new type of cochlear implant. The hybrid cochlear implant is an investigational device which blends a hearing aid with a modified cochlear implant.

In June 2007, Dr Herzog was interviewed regarding a completely implantable hearing aid. This new device has undergone a phase 1 trial with the Food and Drug Administration.

In January 2007, Dr Herzog was interviewed after successfully performing what was at the time, the youngest patient receiving a cochlear implant in the St Louis area.
