In January 2007, Dr Herzog was interviewed after successfully performing what was at the time, the youngest patient receiving a cochlear implant in the St Louis area.

A cochlear implant was placed in a nine month old congenitally deafened baby. He then surgically placed an implant in the opposite ear six weeks later.
The devices are activated and the child is now age appropriate for hearing and speech.
