UPCOMING EVENTS 2008
On April 28, 2008,
Members of the Center will present a symposium in Quincy, Illinois to audiologists and other hearing professionals on surgical advances for sensorineural hearing loss. This symposium will begin at 6:30 pm at the Country Inn and Suites in Quincy, Illinois. Join Us - This Symposium is open to the public.
On April 24, 2008, Dr. Jacques Herzog will appear on KDSK, Channel 5, between 12:15 and 12:30 to discuss the Center's outcomes in elderly individuals receiving cochlear implants.
On April 12-13, 2008,
Dr. Herzog and Kathy Rehwinkel, M.S., CCC-A/SLP, will attend an investigators meeting for the hybrid cochlear implant device. The Center is one of approximately 10 centers nationwide participating in this very important study looking at the benefit of a unique device that combines a cochlear implant with a hearing aid.
On April 10-11, 2008,
Kathy Rehwinkel, M.S., CCC-A/SLP, director of cochlear implant audiology at the Center, will present our results in "cochlear implants in adults older than 75" at the annual international cochlear implant meeting, "CI 2008" in San Diego, California. This is an important study which shows that the elderly do as well as younger individuals with their cochlear implants, suggesting that age alone should not be a factor in determining candidacy for cochlear implants.
On February 18, 2008,
the Center for Hearing and Balance Disorders hosted a symposium at St. Luke's hospital, for audiologists and other hearing professionals on surgical treatment of sensorinueral hearing loss. This symposium included presentations by Kathy Rehwinkel, Carolyn Bequete and Dr. Herzog on topics relating to cochlear implants and bone-anchored hearing aids.
On February 17, 2008, the FDA gave the approval to proceed with Phase 2 trials for the Otologics completely implantable hearing aid. The Center is now recruiting subjects for the study.
On January 31, 2008,
Dr. Herzog presented work showing that the vast majority of our cochlear implant patients are able to use the telephone. This is "landmark data" with better outcomes than have been previously reported. This reflects the advances in cochlear implant rehabilitation services provided by the Center. This was presented at the Colorado Mid-Winter Otology meeting.
