In June 2007, Dr Herzog was interviewed regarding a completely implantable hearing aid.
This new device has undergone a phase 1 trial with the Food and Drug Administration. The Center for Hearing and Balance Disorders is one of a limited number of centers selected to participate in the phase 2 study.
The device is intended for individuals with moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss, who would otherwise be hearing aid users. The hearing aid is completely implanted behind the ear. This will allow one to maintain a very active lifestyle without sacrificing hearing.
